Our Autumn 2024 Forgotten Orchard tour is now underway, and we’re thrilled to take you behind the scenes to explore the inspiration behind the production and introduce the talented team bringing it to life. In this blog series, we’re shining the spotlight on the incredible individuals making it all happen, this time with a special focus on composer Alan Penman.
Tell us about your job and what you like about it?
My job is a composer and musician. I write music for theatre and television. My job on The Forgotten Orchard also involves sound design, so I create sound and music to help tell the story. I love my job! It’s very exciting to create music and sounds for theatre and see how it really enhances the show.
What was the best bit about creating the underscore for The Forgotten Orchard?
The best bit about creating underscore for The Forgotten Orchard is watching the show with my sound and music, and seeing how it adds so much to the storytelling. Music and sound can help transport you off to places, or make you feel a certain way – it’s like magic!
What unexpected thing did you learn about apples, and what do you think children will enjoy about the show?
I just couldn’t believe how many types of apples there are! Like me, I think children will want to eat more apples and eat different types of apple too. I also think everyone will love getting to know Katy and Grandad as they are great characters and they have great stories to tell.
