The Isle of Egg

P3-7 in schools and ages 6+, families and the wider community at festivals and community venues

2009 - 2012

“. . . the play had the kids in the audience shouting for more and the adults in gales of laughter . . . it should be taken on a national tour of primary schools”

Eco Drama - The Isle of Egg

Overview

Egg is a magical place, a place where change knows no boundaries, a place where dreams come true…

An ecological fable inspired by the true story of Eigg, a beautiful, self- sustainable island off the west coast of Scotland. Through interactive storytelling, live music, eco gadgets and humorous characters, Eco Drama brings to life an uplifting story about climate change, positive thinking and the power of community spirit.

Eco Drama’s first ever production, devised for ages 7+. Launched on the real island of Eigg in 2009, this show has toured extensively in schools, community venues and festivals, including visits to most of Scotland’s island communities.

“I liked the way you used humour, wit and song too fully engage the audience. It was informative and fun. It linked well with our current topic, the weather and ties in with Eco Schools. Fantastic, the class and I really enjoyed it.”

Mrs Osbourne, Class Teacher, Glasgow

“It was very relevant to the pupils learning in that it linked with several Eco Schools areas – the idea of recycling, ways of making renewable energy and reducing oil use. The message that they can change things themselves was great.”

Francis McKee, Eco Schools Coordinator, Glasgow

“It was really funny and really good fun!”

Michael, St Mungo’s Pupil

“Interactive, good pace, kept them involved and engaged. It was inspiring to see actors and live musicians.  An excellent show enjoyed by all.”

Class teacher, Balivanich Primary, Isle of Benbecula

“The Isle of Egg was the most fun adults and children alike have had during our Big Green Challenge year on Eigg so far. Learning about climate change and what we can all achieve together to make our world a better place without fossil fuels – learn while you laugh – sums it up.”
