The Second Edition Out to Play Resource Pack is an 82 page document bursting with ideas, activities, stories and inspiration to develop a school’s ‘Out to Play’ journey. Building on the first pack written after the pilot project, this second edition draws on the experiences of the Eco Drama Artists that have delivered Out to Play residencies in school playgrounds across Glasgow during the last few years. It contains an abundance of creative ideas to support primary school teachers and educators to deliver imaginative outdoor learning sessions in school playgrounds or outdoor spaces, including inspiring environmental stories, nature connection exercises, session plans, drama activities and games, and is packed full of handy tips and insights for facilitating creative outdoor learning sessions.

Sophie Rose McCabe is a performer, writer and drama artist with a passion for the outdoors and nature. She began working as a drama artist with Eco Drama in 2017, and delivered the project for 6 years, delivering Out to Play residencies in various mainstream and ASN schools across Glasgow. Sophie helped to develop an Out to Play project approach for pupils with ASN and she also co-wrote the 2nd Edition ‘Let’s Go…Out To Play’ Resource pack with Ben Mali for Eco Drama.

Ben Mali Macfadyen is an artist, activist and community facilitator who has been part of the Out to Play team since the project was created in 2015. Ben was instrumental in developing the pilot project in four primary schools across Glasgow, and subsequently went on to deliver Out to Play residencies and teacher CPD sessions for 5 years with Eco Drama, as well as training new Drama Artists joining the team. Ben wrote the First Edition Out to Play Resource Pack and co-wrote the Second Edition ‘Let’s Go…Out to Play! Resource.
Ben is also a trained Primary School Teacher, and when he isn’t working with children, he teaches nature awareness, sustainable leadership, nurture, inclusion and creativity skills with diverse communities across Britain. Ben is committed to working alongside teachers and other community leaders whose commitment and skill is an endless source of inspiration.
